• 150 international students (4-8 from IU)

* The spring application deadline will be in January, one year before your semester abroad. Applicants should consider that there will be fewer opportunities for cultural interaction with Nanzan students due to their academic break during most of your spring semester.

• Intensive Japanese Program (IJP) track at Nanzan University 
• Students are expected to test into (at a minimum) Nanzan’s Level III Japanese language class. Level VI Japanese is available in Spring semester only.  
• Students seeking Seminar Courses (2 credits each, taught in Japanese) must have a high level of proficiency in Japanese. Availability for these courses is dependent upon the level of Japanese into which a student places.

• Nanzan University housing options include:
  • Room in a Japanese dormitory
    • Janssen International residence (located next to Nanzan University)
    • Foyer Nanzan (located 18 minutes from Nanzan University)

    • Two meals/day and most weekend meals included
    • additional fee charged directly to students
  • Note: Indiana University will not support plans for students to obtain independent housing. Students are required to live in program-provided housing in Nagoya

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
• have taken or are enrolled in fourth semester college-level Japanese with a B average
• have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

• Education Abroad Scholarships, including Scholarships for Students from IU campuses other than Bloomington.

• $1,000 Kaoru Ando Memorial Scholarships for academic year participants only

• IU Scott C. Schurz Pell Match Study Abroad Scholarships for resident undergraduate students with a Pell grant

• Possible Japanese government scholarship awarded on a competitive basis.

• National Freeman-ASIA Scholarship awarded on a competitive, need-based basis (applications due once a year in March)
