When a study abroad program requires prior language study, the applicant must meet the minimum eligibility prior to the start of the program. If a student is currently enrolled in a required language course at the time of their application, their participation in the program is contingent on receiving a B or higher in that course. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Some programs will require enrollment in a language course within the year prior to the program start date.
Fulfilling Language Requirement Via Test Credit
Students can fulfill language requirements by testing out of the required courses through the IU department's language placement exam. (i.e. if the student places into fifth semester, then they have met the requirements for forth semester.)
