Students can only complete two CTAs per term, so if you’ve already used those, then no, you cannot submit a new CTA. If it’s past the deadline, students cannot submit a new CTA.

International Admissions will post undistributed (i.e. DEPT-UN 100) credit if the course has never been transferred to IU before. Otherwise, they will use the transfer credit that's already in the Credit Transfer Service.

Deadlines:

  • November 15: Spring programs
  • March 15: Summer programs
  • May 15: Fall or Academic Year programs

Yes, you can still get transfer credit if a) the transcript comes from an accredited institution and b) you earn a grade of C or higher. You do not need to update our office or International Admissions if your specific course enrollment changes after you submit your CTA.

No, you do not need to submit another CTA or update your existing one. Ensure that the IU department submits a course approval memo to our office, which we will share with International Admissions.

IU will award 1 credit for every 15 contact hours (classroom hours).

The * notation means that IU has not seen the course on a transcript yet, so until then, they cannot confirm the credit hours you’ll earn. However, if you look at the syllabus from abroad, you can calculate the IU credit based on the contact hour formula.

Continue your application through iAbroad. Contact edabroad@iu.edu if you are unable to log back in.

Your academic advisor can help you understand your IU degree requirements, but ultimately, you will need to pick your own classes abroad. Review the What You Need to Know page for information on how to research transfer credit and get a course approved for transfer credit.

Please contact your study abroad program for visa guidance.

IU Education Abroad would be happy to sign financial aid forms. Complete your portion of the form and then email it to edabroad@iu.edu.

This depends on how long it takes for you to ensure your official transcript is sent back to IU. Generally, we advise it can take up to six months after your program. Graduating seniors need to plan accordingly.

Our office reports WLC completion to the University three times per year, so depending on when your transfer credit posts to your IU transcript (so we can verify that you successfully transferred at least 6 credits), your name may go on the next list. Students with imminent graduation can contact our office at edabroad@iu.edu to inquire about rush processing.

Our office always encourages students to follow these procedures so you can stay in good academic standing whilst abroad, retain your enrollment window for the upcoming term, and avoid any unpleasant surprises regarding transfer credit. A student is still able to study abroad even if they are not in the 0-credit OVST placeholder course. However, if a student does not follow these procedures, they risk not having transfer credit (or World Language & Culture completion) arranged.
