Barcelona-CIEE

• This is an IU Co-Sponsored Program
• Semester Program with Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)
• Typical enrollment: 30-40 students from U.S. colleges and universities

• CIEE Study Abroad “Advanced Liberal Arts” program* track 
• Courses taught in Spanish by local faculty at the CIEE Study Abroad Center for CIEE students only 
• Direct-enroll courses taught in Spanish at Universidad de Barcelona (UB)with Spanish and international students 
• Optional unpaid internship for minimum of 8 hours/week with placements in international relations, finance, marketing, humanities, language, public relations, market research, publishing, and communications

• CIEE Housing options include:
  • Standard housing
    • single room in homestay (two meals/day included)
    • double room in shared apartment

• Note: Indiana University will not support plans for students to obtain independent housing. Students are required to live in program-provided housing in Barcelona

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your third full-time semester of college
• have taken or are enrolled in seventh semester (two 300-level courses) college-level Spanish with a B average
• have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Students that have not completed or are enrolled in at least two 300-level Spanish courses should consider other programs appropriate for their Spanish language level.

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.
