Paris-CIEE

• This is an IU Co-Sponsored Program
• Summer Program with Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) at the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM)
• Small group of U.S. students in the vicinity of musicians and composers from around the world
• Four weeks hands-on activities, e.g. 'patching' sound samples and voice modulation, coupled with concerts, workshops, rehearsals and symposiums linked to the ManiFESTE music festival at IRCAM and its Académie event. One week is devoted to the study of sound and music theory and critique around acoustic creation.

• CIEE Paris Contemporary Music Creation and Critique Program* 
• Four weeks of intensive composition activities and projects centered on electronic composition with specialized software. 
• All program activities will be conducted in English.

• CIEE housing options include:
  • Standard housing

      • single room, with a shared kitchen
      • breakfast is provided daily, as well as five meals per week
    • residence hall/hotel/aparthotel with mix of CIEE, local, and international students (double occupancy) 
    • apartment with other CIEE students (double occupancy)

• Note: Indiana University will not support plans for students to obtain independent housing. Students are required to live in program-provided housing in Paris

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate or graduate degree candidate at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your sixth full-time semester of college
• have fluency in Macintosh OS X environments, familiarity with a sequencer program (i.e. Pro Tools, Digital Performer, or Logic Audio), familiarity with a sound editor (i.e. Audacity, Adobe Audition)
• have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Jacobs School of Music Center for Electronic and Computer Music program students must have completed CECM introductory courses, including MUS K403/503 and K404/504.

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.
