• IES Abroad “Language & Area Studies” program 
• Courses taught in Spanish by local faculty at the IES Abroad Center on campus of Universidad Complutense de Madrid for IES Abroad students only 
• Required Spanish language course based on IES placement test 
• Required internship placement of 8-15 hours/week with placements in public and private organizations 
• Several 1-3 day field trips across Spain to cultural and historical sites

• Note: Indiana University will not support plans for students to obtain independent housing. Students are required to live in program-provided housing in Madrid

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
• have taken or are enrolled in fifth semester college-level Spanish with a B average
• have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

• IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.
• IES Abroad guaranteed aid of up to $7,000 (semester) or up to $3,000 (summer) based on confirmation of official FAFSA Expected Family Contribution. See details. Also see IES Abroad Scholarships and Aid available.
