Madrid-CIEE Open Campus

• This is an IU Co-Sponsored Program
• Semester Program with Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)

• "Open Campus" program track* with CIEE 
• Students take two classes during a 6-week Block (students enroll in three Blocks, for a total of 18 weeks) 
• Option to do unpaid, 3-credit internship placement (approximately 20 hours/week) or service-learning project in Spanish with accompanying seminar (with CIEE participants) 
• Independent study is not allowed 
• All courses must be taught in-person from the CIEE Madrid Center 
• Multi-day study tours 

The program will satisfy the IUB Gen Ed World Languages and Culture Requirement.

 Please note: Indiana University co-sponsors CIEE Open Campus programs as single-site options only through standard billing and academic arrangements between IU and the program provider. Students applying to the CIEE Open Campus multi-site program who want to include Madrid can be accommodated through Non-IU Program procedures.

• Note: Indiana University will not support plans for students to obtain independent housing. Students are required to live in program-provided housing in Madrid

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
• have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA

No Spanish language background required.

Business majors must have (or will have) successfully completed the KSB prerequisite of the Business Integrative Core (or equivalent coursework at an IU campus outside Bloomington) by the start of the program

Spanish majors: please see Barcelona CIEE Advanced Liberal Arts, Madrid IU, or Seville CIEE Liberal Arts programs to earn upper-level Spanish.

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

• IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.
• Competitive CIEE scholarships of $3,000 available for qualified IU students based on need and merit.
