Berlin-CIEE

• This is an IU Co-Sponsored Program
• Semester Program with Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) at the CIEE Berlin Center

• "Open Campus" program track* with CIEE 
• Students take two classes during a 6-week Block (students enroll in three Blocks, for a total of 18 weeks) 
• Option to do unpaid, 3-credit internship placement (approximately 20 hours/week) or service-learning project with accompanying seminar (with CIEE participants) 
• Independent study is not allowed. 
• All courses must be taught in-person from the CIEE Berlin Center 
• Multi-day study tours 

The program will satisfy the IUB Gen Ed World Languages and Culture Requirement.

Please note: Indiana University co-sponsors CIEE Open Campus programs as single-site options only through standard billing and academic arrangements between IU and the program provider. Students applying to the CIEE Open Campus multi-site program who want to include Berlin can be accommodated through Non-IU Program procedures.

• CIEE Housing options include:
  • Standard housing
    • single room in homestay (two meals/day included)
    • triple or quad room within CIEE Berlin Center
    • if dorm capacity is exceeded, a double room in a shared, off-campus apartment
  • Select housing
    • double room within CIEE Berlin Center
    • additional fee charged directly to students
  • Select Plus housing
    • single room within CIEE Berlin Center
    • additional fee charged directly to students
• All housing not in the CIEE Berlin Center are located within 45 minutes of the center.
• Note: Indiana University will not support plans for students to obtain independent housing. Students are required to live in program-provided housing in Berlin

IU students would only be assigned to off-campus apartments if the Berlin Center fills to capacity.

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your third full-time semester of college
• have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA

Business majors must be enrolled in or have completed (or will complete) the KSB prerequisites of the Business Integrative Core (or equivalent coursework at an IU campus outside Bloomington).

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

• IU scholarships, grants and loans applicable to program costs with some exceptions. Please carefully check these exceptions before you commit to a program.

• IU Scott C. Schurz Study Abroad Scholarships of $2,500-$5,000 available for qualified applicants in media-related majors
