Alcala-CIEE

• This is an IU Co-Sponsored Program
• Summer Program offered by Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) at the Instituto Universitario de Investigacin en Estudios Norteamericanos de la Universidad de Alcala (the Institute)
• Local excursions in Alcala de Hernares and Madrid as well as field trips to nearby sites of historical interest in Spain

• CIEE "Summer Language and Culture" program* 
  • Session I: June 3, 2024 to June 28, 2024
  • Session II: July 1, 2024 to July 30, 2024
  • Special permission from Overseas Study is required to participate in both sessions I and II: June 3 to July 30, 2024
• Courses taught in Spanish by local faculty at the Universidad de Alcalá in small classes of international students

• Homestay (students live with local hosts, families or individuals)
  • One student per home
  • Three meals per day provided at homestay
• Student Residence 
  • Single or double bedrooms
  • Three meals per day provided at student residence cafeteria
• Students under 26 years old recieve a Madrid Youth Transport card
  • Unlimited use of the Alcala and Madrid public bus systems, commuter trains, and the local train to Madrid

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your second full-time semester of college
• have taken or are enrolled in sixth semester college-level Spanish with a B average
• have approximately a 2.75 cumulative GPA

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.
