• IU faculty resident directors: Mary Embry, Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design
• Trips to Guatemala City, San Juan la Laguna, and Antigua

Program intends to immerse students in the complications and possibilities of the contribution of fair trade (principled) product to sustainable development, having both local and international implications. Students will delineate cultural, historical, and economic factors that have shaped artisan handmade production through museum study of textile traditions, eco-tours, Cultural ceremonies, making and conversation with artisans, exploration of the colonial capital city Antigua, and a week at Lake Atitlan, an indigenous Mayan community.

• 10 hours of class per week during Summer Session I (May 12 to June 5)
  • Travel to Guatemala May 18 to May 31
• 3 IUB credits in SOAD-M 409: Retail Industry Field Seminar or SOAD-F 485: Advanced Special Topics in Fashion Design
• Course counts toward Apparel Merchandising and Fashion Design major/minor at IU Bloomington

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your second full-time semester of college
• have approximately a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.
