Cape Town-CIEE

• This is an IU Co-Sponsored Program
• Semester Program with Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) at the University of Cape Town
• Typical enrollment: 75-115 students from U.S. colleges and universities

• Arts and Sciences program track*
• Approximately 12-16 IU credits 
• Courses at the University of Cape Town in all areas (except Health Sciences and Law)
• Please note: Independent Research is not an option for IU students on this program. Students cannot earn credit for independent research on the Cape Town Arts & Sciences CIEE program.

• Apartment-style university residence halls with CIEE, international, and South African students.

You may apply if you:

• are an undergraduate student at any Indiana University campus who is making normal academic progress
• are in at least your fourth full-time semester of college
• have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA

Prior coursework with African Studies content is strongly recommended.

Business majors must be enrolled in or have completed (or will complete) the KSB prerequisites of the Business Integrative Core (or equivalent coursework at an IU campus outside Bloomington).

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance.

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant. Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Fall 2023

• IU portion of fee: $241.95
• CIEE portion of fee*paid to IU bursar: $18,952.50 (academic fees, housing, health insurance, orientation, cultural activities, and local excursions)
• Additional Meals: $2,000
• International Airfare: CIEE estimates $1,450 (for East Coast departures)

Personal expenses and vacation travel additional. Initial prepayment of $500 due March 21, 2023.

Spring 2024

• IU portion of fee: $241.95
• CIEE portion of fee*paid to IU bursar: $19,807.50 (academic fees, standard housing, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, and medical insurance)
• Meals: $1,235
• International Airfare: CIEE estimates $1,450 (for East Coast departures)
