Why did you choose this program? I was interested in applying my Spanish and medical knowledge to a unique setting; I thought Chile would provide that (and it did). I also wanted to meet people from different parts of the United States, as well as challenge myself integrating into a new culture.

Describe your favorite class(es) abroad. My favorite class was exploring the different hospitals in Santiago and shadowing some of the doctors there.

What was the housing like on your study abroad program? I lived in a historical neighborhood (ñuñoa) located not far from downtown Santiago. I lived with a host parent (mid 30s male) who lived with two dogs. I also had a roommate from Loyola of Chicago who was on the same program.

What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students? Explore, travel, and don't be afraid of trying new things. Who knows when you will get the opportunity to do something like this again!

What’s your best memory from your time abroad? My best memory was spending the weekend at the Atacama Desert during our long weekend. From sandboarding to hiking the caverns, it was an adventure-filled weekend!

What was your biggest surprise about the location, culture or other aspects of your program? The immersion within the immersion - adjusting not only to Chilean culture but to the "culture" of other parts of the United States as well.

 “If I could do it over, I would…” ...have tried a wider range of food!

What do you know now that you didn’t know before you went abroad? I know that the world is a great place, and that I love to travel!

What do you wish someone had told you before you left? There will be tough days, but that doesn't mean it will be a bad experience.

What fact about your host country do you think people would be surprised to learn? Chilean Spanish has quite a bit of slang!
