Why did you choose this program? I chose these programs due to my creative abilities and passion for the entertainment business. I am a music enthusiast and have been attending concerts and festivals all over the United States. The opportunity to be apart of such a unique festival like Roskilde was such an incredible experience as I was able to interact with so many creative minds and positive peers.

Describe your favorite class abroad. My favorite class was Roskilde festival because it gave me such a unique experience that one would never be able to receive in the United States. It is so hands on and interactive. My teacher Mads made it that much better as he encouraged a learning style unlike anything I have ever been taught. We learned to be best friends with every single person in our class after the short 3 weeks was up. On top of all that, the music was amazing and although there is still academic work to be done, you are still given so much freedom to experience everything Roskilde has to offer.

What was the housing like on your study abroad program? My housing was very clean and way larger than I expected. I lived in Holmbladsgade where we had about 85 residents on 4 floors with a balcony porch on the 2nd floor. My floor consisted of a common kitchen and living room along with 4 bedrooms. I had 2 roommates in my bedroom and I had plenty of room for all of my things. I never once felt crammed or uncomfortable or homesick for that matter. You get to know everyone very well as everyone tends to hangout in the common area or on the balcony in their free time after class is over.

What advice would you like to give to future study abroad students? Go by yourself! I was nervous about not knowing anybody but by the end I couldn't be happier that I did so. Not that it is bad to know a few people but I personally believe it has more potential to come with complications and restrains you from meeting as many people as you would if you were alone.

What’s your best memory from your time abroad? My best memory from abroad was at the Roskilde Festival with all of my classmates on my birthday. We celebrated at Paul McCartney.

What was your biggest surprise about the location, culture or other aspects of your program? Everyone actually wears black and nobody really speaks in public or at least it seems that way. The weather isn't the greatest either and you have to really adjust as it changes frequently throughout the day.

Describe your experience with culture shock or reverse culture shock.I didn't have that much culture shock as I had a pretty good idea what to expect but on the way back it made me realize how loud and obnoxious Americans can be and that we take a lot for granted. It made me realize there are definitely other countries making much faster advancements on a variety of things including energy efficiency.

“If I could do it over, I would…” If I could do it over, I would go to Europe earlier and travel other countries before the abroad classes started. I got to travel to quite a few places on the weekends but there is truly so many places to go see and not nearly enough time.

What do you know now that you didn’t know before you went abroad? In Europe it is not uncommon to have to pay to use the restroom. People also graduate high school around 20 years old and then take a couple years off to travel or decide what they want to do before going to college.

What do you wish someone had told you before you left? I wish someone told me how chilly it actually gets.

What was your greatest challenge? Adjusting to the weather and at times commuting from place to place.

What fact about your host country do you think people would be surprised to learn? Most people have never driven a car.
