Before pursuing a Non-IU study abroad program, keep in mind the major differences between IU and Non-IU Programs. Students participating on IU study abroad programs receive direct IU credit, pay through the IU Bursar, can utilize most forms of financial aid, and receive comprehensive advising throughout the study abroad process.

In contrast, students participating on Non-IU programs receive transfer credit, pay the program provider directly, and have more restrictions on the forms of financial aid that can be used towards the cost of the program.

Before you begin researching Non-IU programs, ensure you meet IU’s eligibility requirements to participate in a Non-IU program, including: a 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA, and that you are in good academic or social standing. See the Non-IU Academic Policies for full eligibility requirements. If you do not meet the minimum requirements, meet with your academic advisor and make plans to meet these requirements for a future term.

These programs are administered by organizations and schools that IU would recommend based on their dependable, high-quality programming. You can also search for programs using the IIE Passport Study Abroad search engine or by visiting the websites of study abroad program providers.

If you have decided on a specific country, be sure to verify that it is not under a State Department travel warning; IU does not support study abroad to countries under a travel warning (with the exception of specific locations in Israel).
